Winterfest

Winterfest is our annual club fun competition night.

This years Winterfest will take place at the Acton arena:

December 18, 2008
Approx. 4-10pm
(exact times will be announced in the week preceding the event)

Winterfest Event Information

This Competition and Fun Event combines the best elements of our “Club Competition” and our “Fun Event” evening. There will be the regular categories of Free Skate, Dance and Interpretive.  These events will be in our Competitive Category and will be the deciders for the carnival solo’s duo’s and trio’s.

Eligibility date is October 1, 2008.
(Level to enter an event by is determined by tests passed up to this date)

This year we will again be offering the SKATE EXTREME Events during our evening.  Skate Extreme is a Skate Canada COS wide series of events which offers the winner a chance to challenge themselves.  The results are sent to Skate Canada and overall COS winners will be announced.  No Carnival highlights will be determined from the Skate Extreme Events

Winterfest is designed for all Acton Skating Club members whether recreational or competitive.

Please speak to your coach if you are interested in participating in this year’s winter fest competition.

Cost is $10.00 for every event entered
Skate Extreme will be $10.00 if entering all three elements or
$5.00 per individual element
December 10, 2008 is the deadlines for entries

Any event in which 2 or more boys sign up a separate event will be held.

 

Skate Extreme Element Competition Events

All Skate Extreme Events will have Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. These Events will have NO bearing on Carnival Highlights or solos.

This program has been developed by the COS (Skate Canada Central Ontario Section) Coaches Committee in consultation with the Skater & Program Development Committee as a fun way to challenge our skaters to greater achievements. Inspired by the Olympic Motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius” or “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”.

  • DISTANCE IN JUMPS
  • REVOLUTION IN SPINS
  • LENGTH OF TIME IN SPIRAL

Platinum Level

Any skater who has not passed any complete Skate Canada test. 

Bunny Hop—Greatest distance measured from point of take-off to the point of landing.

2 Foot Spin—Most revolutions counted from the first rotation.

Shoot the Duck—Longest time in moving shoot the duck position.

Bronze Level

The skater must not have passed the complete Preliminary
Freeskate test.

Bronze Jump—Greatest distance in a waltz jump, measured from the point of take-off to the point of landing.

Bronze Spin—Most revolutions in a one-foot or corkscrew spin, counted from the first revolution in the basic position.

Bronze Sprial—Longest time in a moving unsupported spiral position.

Silver Level

The skater must not have passed the complete Sr. Bronze Freeskate test.

Silver Jump—Greatest distance in a flip jump, measured from the point of take-off to the point of landing.

Silver Spin—Most revolutions in a back one-foot spin, counted from the first revolution in the basic position.

Silver Sprial—Longest time in a moving unsupported spiral position.

Gold Level

Open to skaters who have passed the complete Sr. Bronze Freeskate test.

Gold Jump—Greatest distance in a single axel jump, measured from the point of take-off to the point of landing.

Gold Spin—Most revolutions in a sit spin, counted from the first revolution in the basic position. In the basic sit spin position, the thigh must be parallel to the ice.

Gold Sprial—Longest time in a moving unsupported spiral position.

Diamond Level

Open to skaters who are registered as Competitive Skaters for Freeskate events in the 2008/2009 season.

Diamond Jump—Greatest distance in a single axel jump, measured from the point of take-off to the point of landing.

Diamond Spin—Most revolutions in a camel spin, counted from the first revolution in the basic position. In the basic camel spin position, the free leg must be behind the body with the leg higher than the hip.

Diamond Sprial—Longest time in a moving unsupported spiral position.

 

Competitive Events

Winners qualify for carnival highlights, Solo’s, Duo’s or Trio’s

Solo Dance

Individual skaters perform the prescribed dance Ballroom style

Event #15:  Pre-Junior—Skater must not have passed complete Preliminary Dance test—Dance: Dutch Waltz

Event #16:  Junior—Skater must not have passed complete Jr. Bronze Dance test—Dance:  Fiesta Tango

Event #17:  Intermediate—Skaters who have passed the Jr. Bronze tests and must not have passed the complete Sr. Bronze tests—Dance:  Fourteen step

Event #18:  SophmoreSkaters who have passed the Sr. Bronze tests and must not have passed the complete Jr. Silver tests—Dance:  Keats Fox trot

Event #19:  Senior—Skaters who have passed the Jr. Silver Dances and must not have passed complete Sr. Silver tests— Dance:  Paso

Event #20: OpenSkaters who have passed the Sr. Silver Dances and higher—Dance:  Argentine Waltz

 

Interpretive & Gold Ribbon Event

Individual skaters supply own music

Event #21:  Interpretive Introductory and Bronze Level—Any Skater working on an Skate Canada Interpretive but has not passed more than two test in the Interpretive Category

Event #22: Interpretive Silver or Gold—Any skater who has passed more than two Interpretive tests.

Event #23:  Gold Ribbon OpenAny skater who qualifies under the Skate Canada Gold Ribbon guideline

 

Free Skate Events

Individual skaters supply own music. 

All Freeskate categories will be judged using the 2008-2009 Skate Canada – Central Ontario Well Balanced Program (WBP) technical package posted at
www.skatecanada-centralontario.com.

Deductions will be taken for any elements outside of specifications in accordance with the Skate Canada Well Balanced Program requirements.  All freeskate events will be judged using Starskate level qualifications.

Event #24:  Introductory A—Skaters must be registered in Canskate or Juniors Program. Must not have passed a Skate Canada test

Set Elements

  • Forward one foot spin
  • Backwards crosscuts
  • Waltz jump
  • Shoot the duck
  • Backwards outside development (Step, Step, Edge)
  • Fwd inside three turn

Event #25:  Introductory B—Skaters must not have passed a complete Skate Canada test or any part of the Preliminary Free Skate test.
Waltz, Sal chow, and toe loop no higher jumps.

Event #26:  Pre-Preliminary Freeskate—Skaters must not have passed the complete Preliminary Free Skate test,  1.5 minutes

Event #27:  Preliminary Freeskate—Skaters must have passed the complete Preliminary Free skate test but no higher 2.0 minutes

Event #28:  Junior Bronze Freeskate—Skaters must have passed the complete Jr Bronze Free Skate but no higher 2.5 minutes

Event# 29:  Senior Bronze Freeskate—Skaters must have passed the complete Sr. Bronze Free Skate but no higher 3.0 minutes

Event #30:  Junior Silver Freeskate—Skaters must have passed the complete Jr. Silver Free Skate but no higher 3.5 minutes

Event #31:  Senior Silver Freeskate—Open category for skaters who have passed the complete Sr. Silver Free Skate test and higher

Every Skate Canada skating program complements the others and allows for unrestricted movement and development through the system. All programs are taught by professional coaches certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and they are offered at member clubs and skating schools across the country.
