For PreCanSkate, CanSkate, PrePower and StarSkate

Facilities

  • During all phases (throughout the year) we will meet with the arena Staff to go over details.

Parking lot Entrance

  • People will come in the entrances indicated.

Entrance Doors

  • If we are on the Townsley rink then we enter the Rink “A” doors at the front of the building.

Entrance Process 

Entrance Time

  • There will be a 15 minute window before our ice time. This is when entry, health screening and contact tracing information will be collected.

Putting and Removing Skates Locations & Process

  • All Skaters will come prepared with required attire already on.
  • Benches and change rooms with capacity limits are available for putting on skates and helmets 
  • Wherever possible, skaters are encouraged to arrive at the arena with skates and guards on
  • StarSkaters/PA’s will have a designated spot (organizer) for guards and water bottles near the boards 

Dropping off Minor Participants

  • Wherever possible, skaters are encouraged to arrive at the arena with skates and guards on 
  • One parent per skater family is allowed in the arena at this time. If facility capacity allows, parents will be allowed to watch while maintaining a safe social distance.  

Conduct of parents in the Viewing Area

  • There is space for spectators; at this time signs will be posted for designated areas in the arena
  • Social distancing guidelines are too be followed during skating sessions, when capacity allows. 

Items Allowed in the Facility

  • Skating bags will be allowed and will be required to stay at the designated area.
  • For PrePower, a bag for your skates, helmet and gloves will be permitted, but all other hockey equipment should already be on the skater and the hockey bag can remain in the car or at home.

Insurance

  • Signed waivers will be required of all skating club members and participants, as per Skate Ontario.
  • The board will keep all waivers.

Hygiene

We will follow all Public Health hand-hygiene and respiratory-hygiene recommendations

Proper hygiene can help reduce the risk of infection or spreading of infection to others.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after   using the washroom
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
  • Wear a face mask
  • When coughing or sneezing:

o   Cough or sneeze into a tissue or the bend of the arm, not the hand

o   Dispose of any used tissues as soon as possible in a lined wastebasket   

     and wash hands

o   Avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands

Facility Meeting

  • Board members will always keep the communication with the facility management open.
  • The Acton Skating Club will adjust programming to follow the mandatory Public Health and Town Facility guidelines.

Participant Meeting

  • The Acton Skating Club will have the protocol posted on our website.
  • It will be emailed to all participants.
  • We will have open communication with all parents who have questions.

Prior to Activity  

  • If a skater does not feel well, is experiencing indicative symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough) they should stay home and advise a coach/board member.  All those participating in or attending a session should stay home if sick.
  • Refund policy amendments for Covid-19 related circumstances will be put in place
  • All participants and spectators will be required to complete a Health Screening as per the Town of Halton Hills
  • All participants and spectators will be required to sign in for contact-tracing purposes
  • All participants and spectators will be required to sanitize hands before proceeding into the facility 

At Facility and During Activity

Physical distancing means making changes in routines to minimize close contact with others. In the viewing area please:

  •   Avoid crowded places and gatherings
  •   Avoid common greetings, such as handshakes
  •   Limit contact with people at higher risk (older adults and those in poor health)
  •   Keep a distance of at least two meters as much as possible.

Mask

  • It is mandatory anyone entering the facility wear a cloth or disposable mask as per Region and Town bylaws.  The cloth/disposable mask can be removed while participating in a skating session and physical distancing is practiced.  Continue to monitor public health authority and Town guidelines specific to wearing masks.
  • Coaches should wear cloth/disposable masks where physical distancing is not possible, such as in the dressing room or on the bench.
  • Wearing a mask alone will not prevent the spread of COVID-19.  You must consistently and strictly adhere to good hygiene and public health measures, including frequent hand washing and physical distancing.

Signs of Sickness

  • A coach should be prepared to require anyone exhibiting signs or symptoms of illness to leave the session. Refer to public health authority and Town guidelines with respect to wearing a mask.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cough or sneeze into a tissue or the bend of the arm, not the hand.

o   Dispose of any tissues as soon as possible in a lined wastebasket and wash hands

o   Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands

o   Avoid contact with anyone who is sick

  • If participants do not feel well or have identified respiratory symptoms, they should advise a coach or board member immediately and put on a cloth/disposable mask.  They should immediately go home and follow up with their physician.
  • Facility staff should be provided with an incident report based on facility protocol prior to the board member/ coaching staff leaving the facility.

Hygiene Guidelines

  • Minimize going in and out of the dressing rooms.  Facility doors are considered high-risk touch points.  Coaches and board members should try and control the number of times skaters enter and exit dressing rooms, as this avoids contact with the door handles.  Use the elbow to open.
  • Absolutely no sharing of drinks or food.
  • Reduce the number of one area stations, including the skaters coming together in one group for instruction
  • Paper towels/tissue can be on hand to wipe the face or blow the nose if on the bench.  Ensure tissues are properly disposed of.  Garbage cans or a plastic bag will be placed close to the bench.
  • Emphasize to all skaters that spitting and blowing the nose without tissue is absolutely forbidden.
  • Any water bottles need to be a marked, which is washed after each session.
  • Wash your hands after using restrooms with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as outlined previously.  Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
  • Instructional equipment will be wiped down with sanitizer after each session.

 

Feeling  Ill/Sick

  • COVID-19 affects different people in different ways.  Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

 

Most common symptoms

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath

Less common symptoms

  • Runny nose
  • Aches and pains
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste and/or smell
  • Skin rash, or discolouration of fingers and toes

Serious symptoms

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Loss of speech or movement
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms.  Always call before visiting your physician or health facility.
  • On average, it takes 5-6 days from infection for symptoms to show, but it can take up to 14 days.

Officials

On-Ice Coaches

  • If possible, hands should be washed prior to starting of each session (coaches can carry a small bottle of sanitizer with them on the ice).
  • Wear a cloth/disposable mask when entering the arena including the dressing room.  The cloth/disposable mask can be removed when going on to the ice.  Continue to monitor public health authority and Town guidelines specific to the wearing of masks.
  • Acton Skating Club will have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available on the boards.
  • Physical distancing is required in dressing rooms.
  • Only coaches should be in the dressing room – no visitors
  • Coaches should have their own water bottle at the boards.
  • Equipment should also be washed after each session.  It is important that coaches/board members ensure equipment is kept clean.
  • Work with the facility staff to see if the dressing rooms are available.

Off-Ice Coaches and Board Members

  • Coaches/ Board Members are recommended to have club hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes on hand for each session.  
  • Physical distancing must be practised, and it is important to work with the facility staff to plan the best way to incorporate the space being used.

Program

Acton Skating Club

The Acton Skating Club will be running:

  • PrePower Sessions
  • PreCanSkate Sessions
  • CanSkate Sessions
  • StarSkate Sessions

 

Programming will follow updated and modified guidelines outlined by Skate Canada; while adhering to social-distancing and health & safety protocols

Waivers will be signed by every parent as part of program registration and must be completed before the first session. 

PrePower Sessions

Fall will be a 10 week session/ Winter will be 10 week session

  • Maximum 10 Skaters per 1 Coach. (ASC will follow the facility guidelines for the number of skaters allowed)
  • Age of the skaters range from approximately 7 to 12 years.

Skaters will be working to build on strengthening their hockey power skating abilities.

  • Enhancing Skating posture.
  • Form and technique, both forward and backward.
  • Additionally, working on speed and power.
  • Other skills taught include pivot turns and crossovers.
  • Skaters will have assigned areas to put their skates, helmet and gloves on. 
  • Attendance will be taken for contact tracing purposes.

PreCanSkate & CanSkate Sessions

Fall will be a 10 week session/ Winter will be 10 week session

  • Maximum 10 Skaters per 1 Coach (ASC will follow the facility guidelines for the number of skaters allowed)
  • Age of the skaters range from 3-5 (PreCan) and 5+ (CanSkate).

Skaters, divided into sub-groups by age/ ability, will be working to build on their skating abilities.

  • Agility
  • Balance
  • Control

 

  • Skaters will be split up into station groups and will rotate from station to station approximately every ten minutes. 
  • Name tags will be handed out on the first day. Skaters will keep them and bring them back each session.
  • Skaters will follow a pattern laid out on the ice made from bingo dobbers. Any other equipment used will be cleaned after each session. 
  • Skaters will be put into groups. Groups will be brought on/off the ice as per their group. This will help stagger/ social distance the skaters.
  • The Coach/ PA assigned to a group will be escorting them on and off the ice to avoid parents crowding.
  • Attendance will be taken for contact tracing purposes.

StarSkate Sessions

This season will be a 22 week session

  • Maximum 10 Skaters per 1 Coach (ASC will follow the facility guidelines for the number of skaters allowed)
  • Age of the skaters range from 9 and up.

 

 Skaters will be working to build on their skating abilities.

  • Skills
  • Dances
  • FreeSkate programs
  • Artistic programs

 

  • Skaters will have a station to place water bottles, masks, gloves and guards. 
  • Skaters will maintain social distancing guidelines while working with other skaters and the coaches.
  • Penalty box (music area) will have one person designated to enter for controlling music only. 
  • Attendance will be taken for contact tracing purposes.
